Who We Are
Alex Duffy has just earned his Masters in Engineering with Honours in Structural Engineering with Architecture from the University of Edinburgh. This degree inherently seeks to improve collaboration between the two halves of the built environment. Specialising in Fire Safety Engineering in his Masters years, he has extended this further to fire engineers in the design team. This was explored in depth in his MEng Thesis: visit http://maximumpotentialdamage.weebly.com
Phil Close has just earned his Masters in Engineering with Honours in Structural and Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Edinburgh. He has dedicated the past three years to forming an understanding of fire dynamics and it’s application in fire safety engineering to a level held by few of the field’s emerging graduates. His thesis explored Timber Construction in Fire: http://greenfireretardants.com
Alex and Phil’s thesis topics, in tandem with each of their unorthodox engineering characters, form an overlap to provide the knowledge for designing, in a scientifically derived manner, the burning of the Temple. This year, with Phil and Alex’s direct input at the design stage and throughout the project, the Burning Man temple structure will be engineered to collapse in such a manner as to represent the art theme of this year’s festival: Rites of Passage.
